Flint Restoration

Have a knapped flint that won't fit in jaws?  Tired of throwing away expensive cut agate flints because they're dull or chipped?  Here's the fast and cost-effective solution!

Our flat diamond hones will quickly resurface and re-shape both natural (black English, French, German) and cut agate flints quickly and easily. Hones are available in two sizes, 2"x6" and 1"x3"  Sets includes one hone of each grit size: 180, 240 & 360.  Mounted diamond points and saws for use in rotary power tools as well as diamond hand files and rifflers will quickly and easily shape, cut and groove materials like fitting a too-long natural flint around the jaw screw.

Sharpening flints is quick and easy. Just as when sharpening a chisel, keep the angled face flat to the surface of the hone and remove material until a sharp edge is produced. If need be, the sharp edge of the flint can be squared prior to working the angle. The top and bottom of the flints can also be worked as needed. Quickly flatten the top of natural flints to increase jaw gripping area.

Diamond hones are not limited to working on flints, they will cut any material softer than diamond. Use these hones for sharpening any cutting tool including those with carbide and ceramic blades/tips as well as shaping materials like hardened steel and glass. These hones work well for quickly truing lock plates and sharpening stones including Arkansas and Japan stones.  Diamond coated tooling is easily cleaned with detergent water.  Use dry or with water to help reduce dust exposure.

(Warning/Caution: Grinding any substance such as flint releases dust that can be hazardous to your health - all appropriate safety precaution and personal protective should be used.  For more information please see the OSHA & MSHA websites)

Gun Care:

DURON Bore & Hard Surface Cleaning Paste
Duron is an excellent non-embedding, non-acid cleaning polish.  It is well suited for polishing bores and other bare metal parts as well as most hard finishes and plastics. The extremely fine polish does not leave scratches in any surface including very soft non-ferrous alloys and every type of plastic I have tried it on. It quickly and easily removes stains, tarnish, non-metallic fouling deposits and light rust without damaging the surface.  Safe for use on copper, brass, steels, gold, silver, chrome, nickel and pewter.  Can be applied by hand or low speed buffer. Duron is fine enough to use for removing scuffs & scratches from many hard wood finishes and plastics too, testing in a hidden area is suggested for all non-metal applications.  Works best when applied with a 100% cotton cloth, a little goes a long way.  Duron is an excellent bore polish, apply using a tight fitting 100% cotton patch.  For best results, solvent clean as normal then completely remove all solvent so the bore is dry before using Duron.  (will remove bluing and some other metal finishes, use with care)  Please see "info" page for technical data sheet  3.25oz tube $10.99ea.  Email mark@fire-iron.biz or call 352.303.4200 for bulk & wholesale pricing
